A world of discovery ... .
The Great War in Flanders
4 days / 3 Nights
WW1 should have been the war to end all wars. So many men signed up to join the Western Front, seduced by the patriotic fervour at the time – sadly so few returned. Follow the indelible traces of these tragic battles.

DAY 1
Depart from your school in the morning to arrive in Ypres for dinner.

Day 2
A visit to the In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres offers an excellent introduction to the events that took place between 1914 and 1918. Your pupils will experience life during the Great War through the eyes of local people at the time. After lunch (not included) you’ll embark on a guided tour of the Ypres Salient, visiting the famous cemeteries and battlefield sites including Lille Gate Cemetery, Hill 60 and Sanctuary Wood. You’ll continue the tour with a visit to Belgium’s largest British cemetery at Tyne Cot and then onto the Langemark cemetery, dedicated to the German soldiers who also perished. The tour ends at the Menin Gate where you’ll hear the moving “Last Post”.

Day 3
Today you’ll cross the border into France to visit the WW1 battlefield memorials and museums, including Somme 1916 Museum in Albert and the underground tunnels in Arras, home to a makeshift British hospital. Either of these historic towns can offer a perfect base for lunch. Return to Ypres in time for Dinner.

Day 4
Time to collect last minute gifts before returning back to the UK.
